Annual Photo Contest
2018-2019 14th Annual Photo Contest
This is an annual photo contest and the contest for 2018-2019 began on August 16th and will run until next August 15th. If you take any photos out at the LPO Refuge and want to enter the contest, contact Joel Anderson at 732-4350 or email him at email@example.com.
You are invited to participate in the Friends of the Little Pend Oreille National Wildlife Refuge Amateur Photo Contest. The sole purpose of the contest is to encourage you to visit and enjoy the Refuge this year.
Up to five entries (total) per person may be submitted in any of the following categories:
- Animal Life – the animal is the main subject
- Plant Life – the plant is the main subject
- Public Use/Recreation
The winning photos will be printed in the Statesman-Examiner, will be on display in the Colville Chamber of Commerce Office, will be featured on the Friends Web Page, and one will be featured on the cover of the North Columbia Monthly. Past winners are displayed in the Refuge office.

2017-2018 Refuge Photo Contest Winners Picked
The Friends of the Little Pend Oreille National Wildlife Refuge are happy
to announce the winners of this year’s contest, which ended on August 15th.
The winners are:
Scenic Category – Dan Price for “Winter at the Beaver Ponds”
Public Use Category – Steven Schubert for “McDowell Marsh Investigation”
Animal Category – Bertha Kamstra for “McDowell Garter Snake”
Plant Category – Bertha Kamstra for “Elkhorns Clarkia”
Special thanks goes to local photographer Joanie Christian, who took on the hard task of judging the entries. A total of 36 photos were submitted by eight photographers.
We also want to thank the following Colville businesses for donating prizes for our winners: Clark’s All Sports, Maverick’s Restaurant, Stephani’s Oak Street Grill, Ritzes, and Dodson’s Paint and Glass.
This was the 13th Annual photo contest sponsored by the Friends of the Little Pend Oreille National Wildlife Refuge. It is held to encourage people to visit our local Refuge and take pictures of the wonders of nature that can be observed there. The 12th Annual contest has already begun. Photos taken at the Refuge between August 16, 2018, and August 15, 2019, can be entered in the contest.
