Fall Hike

Enjoy fall colors at the Refuge! Meet at the Refuge Headquarters at 9:00 am on October 1st for the fall hike led by Dan Price. The hike will be on the Schumaker Meadow and Prospect Creek; about 6 miles round trip, and easy to moderately difficult. Schumaker Meadow is one of the prettiest spots on the refuge. Moved up a week due to Rain–Tree Planting Day on the Refuge 10/22/16

We need volunteers to help plant 2500 white pine seedlings. We meet at HQ at 8:00 am to car pool to the site on the Blacktail Mountain Loop Rd. (the road is not recommended for passenger vehicles). Lunch, snacks and drinks will be provided along with shelter, if needed. An outhouse will also be provided. Winter Bird Count

January 12 @ 8:00 am - 2:00 pm

Please join us for the Annual Winter Bird Count at the Refuge on January 12th. We will be meeting at the cold hour of 8:00 am at the Refuge Headquarters. When everyone has arrived we will divide into teams to cover as many areas as possible. A warm soup lunch is provided every year by the Refuge staff after the count. Saturday January 21st is our Annual Board and Membership Retreat and Fun in the Snow Day! All Friends of the LPONWR and other interested folks are invited! Mushroom Foray 2017

A local favorite event! Mycologist Jim Groth and wife, JoAnne will lead an educational mushroom foray on the Little Pend Oreille National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday April 29th. This is a good way to learn more about your refuge. Emphasis will be on collecting morels for the table, but stress will also be put on identification and ecology of all fleshy fungi encountered. Summer Evening Hike

You are invited to hike with our local refuge expert, Dan Price on Saturday, May 27th. We will meet at 5 :30 pm at the McDowell Lake trailhead. This is also known as the River Camp, right on the Little Pend Oreille River.
